Charlotte

Charlotte Winslade - Artistic Director

Charlotte Winslade has had an enormous impact on the musical life of Canberra since returning from the USA in 2000, including a year as principal cellist of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, five years as Director of the Casals Academy of Music, two years as Artistic Advisor the the Instrumental Division of the Australian National Eisteddfod Society, three years as Concertmaster of the CCO, Principal Cellist of the Canberra Pops Orchestra and teacher to some of the region’s finest young string talents.Charlotte is the founder of the CCO and has been the Artistic Director since it’s conception. She has conducted the ensemble in performance and appeared as soloist on several occasions, including a performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto in 2010 and Dvorak Cello Concerto in 2011.  
 
Mark Shiell

Mark Shiell - Chief Conductor

Mark Shiell has been instrumental in the development of several important educational/ensemble initiatives. He was Co-founder and Principal Conductor of the Melbourne New Orchestra which performed at such venues at Hamer Hall and the Melbourne International Festival of Brass. His work with the Canberra Concerto Orchestra, Choir of the Southern Cross and the Macquarie Philharmonia are important musical developments in their respective regions. Mr Shiell is a passionate advocate of the benefits of community music making. His work in this area has seen him conducting ensembles such as the Frankston Symphony Orchestra, Preston Symphony Orchestra, Mildura District Orchestra, Ballarat Symphony Orchestra, Barrier Reef Orchestra, Stonnington Symphony Orchestra and Monash Chorale. 
 
Vince Edwards

Vincent Edwards - Concertmaster

Vincent Edwards, formerly Head of String Studies at the Australian National University, author and producer of the interactive video/DVD “A Family Guide to Violin Foundations” is a Graduate of the famed Julliard School of Music, New York, USA. He has many years of experience as a recitalist on violin and viola, as a chamber musician and as Concertmaster Emeritus of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. He has played violin with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Principal Viola with the New Zealand Opera Orchestra and Principal Viola with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Vincent has for many years been an active member of AUSTA, and has conducted and coached at many music camps, master classes, chamber festivals and Youth Orchestras.

Tor Fromyhr - Strings Tutor


Violinist and conductor Tor Frømyhr, Lecturer in Violin and Viola at the ANU School of Music has toured extensively nationally and internationally with many chamber ensembles including Rialannah String Quartet, Australian Contemporary Music Ensemble, Queensland Piano Trio, Ensemble I, Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra and Alpha Centauri. He has performed as soloist, conductor and concertmaster with a number of Australian orchestras and conducted and performed in festivals in Scandinavia, USA, Germany, France, UK and Italy. Many performances have included world or Australian premieres. He continues an extensive performance and conducting career with regular appearances with the Canberra Symphony and in chamber music and solo recitals throughout Australia.
